About the Event

Richmond Rhythm is in its fifth year. Although the event began as an invitational, the RAMifications of VCU always intended for the event to grow to Virginia’s Premiere Collegiate A Cappella Competition.

While the original Richmond Rhythm was held in stunning St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Oregon Hill (Richmond), the event is now held at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (VCU). VCU’s commitment to the arts, and dedication to supporting RAMifications makes this event possible each year, and allows the RAMifications to continually grow Richmond Rhythm, year-after-year.

A Cappella in Virginia is a thriving culture. Each year new groups are formed while established groups continue to bring entertainment to every part of the state. Richmond Rhythm is these groups’ dedicated time to increase their following while supporting other groups in the process.

Former Participants Include:

  • JMU (Low Key, Exit 245, Note-oriety, Overtones)
  • UMW (Symfonics, One Note Stand, Bellacappella)
  • GMU (GMUnit, Noteworthy)
  • UofR (Choeur du Roi, Off the Cuff)
  • W&M (Stairwells, Cleftomaniacs)
  • VCU (Notochords)
  • CNU (Take Note)

About the Host

The RAMifications take a little bit of VCU wherever we go. We are part hipster, part show-stopper, part starving artist and entirely RVA. Our family is extremely dedicated to what we do, and to the relationships we build with each other and those who surround us.

RAMifications held first auditions in January of 2010. The group started with 16 members, growing as large as 22 over the years. In our first semester, we had the pleasure to sing for the VCU STRUT Fashion Show, drawing in a large crowd and introducing ourselves to Richmond. In the following years, the group performed formally and informally at locations including:

  • The Historic Greenbrier Hotel’s Easter Celebration
  • The Jefferson Hotel
  • Richmond’s First Friday Artwalk
  • Main Street Visual Arts Center
  • SoJam A Cappella Competition and Workshop weekend, Durham (NC)
  • Sing Strong A Cappella Competition and Workshop weekend, Reston (VA)
